First Impression is not the last impression

First impression is never a real impression !!

Essay on dramatic Poesy

Image
The work is in the form of semi-drama thus making abstract theories interesting. In the late 17th century, Shakespeare was severely criticised for his careless attitude towards the mixing of genres. It was Dryden who elevated Shakespeare to height for his natural genius. The narrative of  An   Essay of Dramatic Poesy  has four debaters among whom, Neander is the one who holds the views of Dryden. Unlike other characters, Neander does not diminish the arguments that are on contrary to his views. Though he himself favours modern drama, he does not blame others. Summary The beginning of the narrative  An   Essay of Dramatic Poesy  or Of Dramatic Poesie is as follows. A battle is going on between England and the Netherlands. Four gentlemen namely Crites, Eugenius, Lisideius and Neander are travelling by boat to see the battle and start a discussion on modern literature.  Crites opens the discussion by saying that none of his contemporaries (i.e. moderns) can equal t

INFLUENCES ON LITERARY MODERNISM

Image
Readers of English Poetry, Novels and painting would like to know and understand what does  Literarary Modernism exactly mean .  The first and the foremost aspect of modernist poetry is that it incorporated a wide variety of certain cultural tendencies and features after the intellectual movement NATURALISM.  Literary Modernism is Anti Positivist and Anti  Representational as we read in the Symbolist Poetry of France in which poets like Stephen Mallarame (1842_98), Paul Verlain (1844_96),Arthur Rimbaud (1854_91) and Jules Laforgue(1860_98) wrote . Symbolist tried to  distil a private mode and their experience of subtle relationships between material and spiritual worlds through evocative symbols. It was a reaction against Realism and Impressionism. It  tried to express themselves in an indirect manner through symbols. Symbolist painters and poets used a wide variety of subjects including heroes, women, animals, and landscapes. They idiosyncratically  gave these subjects deep and evoca

A Lecture

Reductionist approach to teach literature has been disseminated by some so called experts and demigods in the field of English Literature NET coaching. Nascent self-proclaimed  teachers who are not Ph. D will spoil the present generation. Just to qualify an exam they take recourse to mcqs without sieving the texts. In literary theory they have not read a single complete book to understand the nuances. How will they train the future professors of India? Now every self proclaimed mentor has been appeasing the increasing crowd they created in the name of business and justifying their poor and populous yet uncoordinated  unregulated teaching  methods . Why you students don't have a spark to know the text? Why don't you read  original stories ? Who is stopping you from attending seminars and symposia where you can become really intellectual? Why don't you spend money and time on mentors who are really educated? Why  do you want to become a Professor without knowledge and passion
